Santa Maria Public Airport District Announces Application Period for Director Area 2 Board Vacancy
SANTA MARIA, Calif. — The Santa Maria Public Airport District (“District”) is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Director Area 2 seat of its Board of Directors, created by the resignation of Director Marvin Rodriguez, effective July 10, 2026.
The Board was formally notified of the vacancy at its meeting of July 29, 2026. The District will accept applications through 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026.
The Board intends to consider the appointment at its regular Board meeting on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., in the District Board Room.
To be eligible, an applicant must be a resident of Director Area 2 and a registered voter of the District, and must be able to attend regular Board meetings held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Eligible residents may apply by submitting a brief letter of interest — including a statement of eligibility and any relevant experience or qualifications — by email to [email protected], or in person during regular business hours at the District office, 3217 Terminal Drive, Santa Maria, CA 93455.
The Director Area 2 seat is also scheduled to be filled for a full four-year term at the District’s general election on November 3, 2026. Accordingly, any person appointed by the Board will serve only until the results of that election are certified and the newly elected Director takes office.
Applying for appointment by the Board and running for the seat in November are two separate processes with two separate deadlines. Applying to the District does not place a name on the ballot. Residents interested in serving the full four-year term must file a Declaration of Candidacy with the Santa Barbara County Elections Division. The candidate filing period runs July 13 through 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2026. Prospective candidates should confirm the deadline directly with the County Elections Division at (805) 568-2200.
The Board reserves the right to appoint any eligible registered voter who is a resident of Director Area 2, or to call an election to fill the vacancy.
