SMKA set to re-open Airport track

The Santa Maria Karting Association is announcing the re-opening of its SMKA track located on the Santa Maria Public Airport grounds after being closed on Sept. 1, 2010.

“The Santa Maria Go Kart track is one of the oldest tracks in the world — It has a rich tradition that dates back to the 1950s,” SMKA President Scott Grundfor said.

The SMKA is planning to hold an open track day on Sunday, July 1, in which anyone interested in the Go-Karting lifestyle is welcome to be a part of.

“This track is like a treasure, due to climate, we have three major races coming to the track in August,” Grundfor said. “This is a place where anybody who is interested in possibly getting into racing can start. Budding racers can come develop into future champions.”
